Our art classes are all about the process. Looking for step-by-step instructions? Sorry but you will have to look elsewhere…

But why process over product? Well, I’m glad you ask… Here are some of the benefits of engaging in open-ended creative experiences:
#1 Freedom to Create
… means no restrictions, no right or wrong and endless possibilities for little artists to engage with tools and materials in their own unique way, which supports little artist’s self-expression, self-esteem and confidence.

#2 Language & Literacy
… little artists might want to discuss their creations or describe what they are doing in the moment. They might choose to sign their artwork with their name, either by themselves or with the help of an adult.
The fine motor movements involved in process art, e.g. of holding a pen or brush, pouring paint, applying glue, cutting etc. all strengthen hand and arm muscles and hand-eye coordination, preparing for those future writing skills.

#3 Emotional Health
… process art is wonderful for releasing challenging emotions, especially for young tamariki who are still learning how to communicate effectively. Relaxation, focus and being in a ‘flow’ state are contributing to a feeling of happiness and general emotional wellbeing.
That all being said, did you know that process art is not only beneficial for our tamariki but us adults too?
